RPi3 Kstars with Mallincam Skyraider 1.2G on Ubuntu Mate - by: glatiak

I am trying to build an RPi3 controller for my observatory. Been a while since I did any Linux config or any programming at all -- am retired systems guy with decades of VMS, Solaris, Windows, etc internals, having a senior moment. The 1.2G is intended to be the guide camera for my Losmandy. I had been using an SSAG on windows but found it was problematic. I have been trying to connect my camera through Ekos in Kstars, have run through the list with no luck. Camera is connected via usb through a powered hub to the Pi. Installed the V4L2 driver but suspect I am missing how to configure the driver. Tried the SSAG and it was recognized right off as a QHY5, so I think my basic plumbing is correct. Can someone point me where to begin?

Thanks.

custom driver question - by: Gonzothegreat

Derek has kindly modified his Aldi roof driver so that I can use the GPIO of my Odroid C1 as the Arduino and serial connection are not working.
Now I need to clean up bits and bobs from the driver.
How can I remove everything but 'Driver info'. It's bugging me as I cannot find it myself.

"Aborting Autoguide" issue with external lin_guider - by: noriQ

Hello.
I am using the latest Ekos by "apt-get upgrade".
When guiding with the external lin_guider, shooting aborts every single shot.

It is a guide log right after aborting.

Exposure processing is running in the external guide.
Is this a correct process?

Bleeding edge kstars on win ? - by: jbrazio

There are official (stable) binaries to be downloaded for Windows, I wonder if we can download the bleeding edge binaries (nightly builds of some sort) for Windows anywhere.

Anyone knows ?

Live View Window - by: jbrazio

I have a couple of suggestions to the Live View window:
- Add shutter dropdown (DSLR users) or exposure float inputbox (CCD users)
- Add ISO dropdown (DSLR) or GAIN (CCD) integer inputbox
- Add a button which would allow to activate an image overlay such as a cross-hair (X, +, bullseye, etc)

The selection (DSLR/CCD) would be automatic based on the driver used.

"Aborting Autoguide" issue with Internal Guider - by: Olivier-40

Hi,

Since two days and after update (apt-get update, upgrade Ubuntu Mate 16.04) I can't no more use autoguider and capture with Ekos.
When I launch the calibrating, sometimes, once every minute or so, this message appears : .
If the calibrating succeeds, I launch the guiding and I still test to start a sequence of captures and now the message appears every ten seconds.
At the end of the first capture, the image FIT displays in a new window. The sequence and the guiding abort both without saving image in "Light" folder.
The config is that one :

Thanks for all,
Olivier

ASI 120mc messed up frames - by: universalmaster

Hi!

I am running an asi120mc as an all sky camera capturing one frame pr minute, to show the sky and by counting the number of stars to see if it is clear or not. It sometimes shows some messed up frames, where you for example can see the beyer pattern, i.e. they are no good. This happens a few times pr night and is no major problem. However, if I run my Meade dsi pro at the same time, capturing .5 framers pr second to get 'video' from the observatory to see how the scope is doing and so on, the ASI will almost mess up every second frame or so. I guess the messed up frames are when something us using the usb or Ethernet and there is not full bandwidth on the USB for the asi.

This is on a raspberry pi 2 with Ubuntu mate.

Any ideas on how to make the asi work nicely together with other equipment? Is it working on the rpi 3?

Support for ArduinoAstroControl ? - by: SpaceInvader

Hello,

I would like to know if INDI supports ArduinoAstroControl ? If not, which USB->ST4 adapter is supported ? In fact, I would like to use my old SPC900 webcam to guide my old mount with a ST4 port on its manual control pad.

Thanks,

Antoine

QtSettingCircles - by: oopfan

Hi Jasem, I have not lost interest in KStars development, or any other type of development for that matter. However I have taken this time to learn Qt. For my first project I wanted to develop an application to help with my old school telescope's setting circles. I've attached a screenshot of my desktop that shows my QtSettingCircles app plus an AngularJS app that I completed several months ago. At the moment. QtSettingCircles is a private GitHub repo but over the next couple of days I will make it public. I have tested it on Ubuntu 16.04 and Windows 7. Works great!

What the attached image isn't showing is that the Hour Angle is updating in real time. And the reason why I show it in a large point size is that my laptop will be a good 2 meters away from me when I adjust the setting circles. I need that magnification.

Building the induino MeteoStation with 3d printed housing - by: Magnus_e

Hi.

To try to reach automation in my observatory before astronomical darkness returns (Aug 22th) I want to build the meteostation indiduino.wordpress.com/2013/02/02/meteostation/

By looking at the info I have some questions about the hardware used. The links in the description is of old out of stock products.

So this is the list I have come up with so far.
  1. Arduino (Pro Micro Arduino www.kjell.com/no/produkter/elektro-og-ve...tDetailedInformation
  2. WiFi module www.kjell.com/no/produkter/elektro-og-ve...no-esp8266-14-p90745
  3. Barometric pressure sensor BMP180 looks to have replaced BMP085 ebay 201414876396
  4. DHT22 AM2302 Humidity sensor ebay 201124429073
  5. MLX90614 IR temperature sensor ebay 191869849584
  6. Cheapest solar powered LED light for daylight sensor www.clasohlson.com/no/Glasskrukke-med-so...ebelysning/36-6482-3
  7. Acryllic sheat www.clasohlson.com/no/Akrylplast/Pr341360000

If these hw selections wil work I still wonder where to mount the sensors.

I plan on mounting the IR temp sensor and the solar cell on top behind a sheat of acrylic glass.
Then have the Arduion with the WiFi module inside of the housing.
For the Barometer and humidity sensor I will mount them inside the housing to keep them dry, but have vents so they are exposed to the outside air. They will be mounted in their own compartement so they will not be affected by the heat of the arduino.

As I understand it, the humidity sensor should not be exposed to rain?

Also in the text it is mentioned that MeteoStation supports two external temperature sensors, but it does not say what sensors are used for mesuring ambient temp, is the DHT22 used for this too?

Hope someone has a little more experience with this, and can give me some tips.
I will design the housing when I know what to make :)

Slew rate defaults back to 1 ? - by: Gasman

Hi
Trying my Kubuntu 17.04 (Kstars bleeding) setup tonight with my NEQ6 mount. I seem unable to tweak the mount with the hand controller as the slew rate keeps going back to x1?.
If I set the slew rate to say x16 and push the joystick North it works ok but when I let go or move the joystick South,West or East the slew rate drops to x1?.
The Indi control panel is showing the joystick works ok by indicating
2017-05-30T22:10:11: North Slew stopped
2017-05-30T22:10:10: Starting North slew.
2017-05-30T22:10:09: South Slew stopped
2017-05-30T22:10:08: Starting South slew.
etc etc .
How can I keep the slew rate fixed so that I can use the joystick ok or is there some other setting I need to make please as I`m using a refractor and its not easy to try and tweak the mount using the N,S,E and W buttons in Ekos on the laptop same time as looking through the finder.
thanks
Steve

Ctrl+J does not show Jupiter's satellites information - by: Vox45

In the "tip of the day" box it is stated that Ctrl+J activates the "Jupiter Moons Tool"

Ctrl+J does not activate this tool, the "configure shortcut menu" does not contain an action for Ctrl+J

Is this tool still availlable as I could not find it in Kstars menu ?

Independant Software EKOS - by: rmor51

Why could Ekos not be an independant application, linked with Kstars (and perhaps others skychart) ? Windows size would be easily set up and more others features.
Specific Canon and Nikkon driver could be created soon ? So, we could dispose automaticaly the image size, the different exposures including, M and Bulb, etc.

Thank you in advance and bravo !
