Always reset guiding calibration - by: CIS

Hi

When I connect up PHD2 I get a warning that I should switch off always reset guiding calibration.

Looking on the forum I found out where the checkbox is supposed to be

But when I go into that setting in my version kstars 3.4.1. I don't have that option in that menu.

Did it move? If so can anyone give me some simple instructions on where to find it now. If it didn't move any idea how I get to it?

Thanks in advance

ALS - Astro Live Stacker - by: Gilles

Hi
Dragonlost and i are very proud to introduce our little toy "ALS" / Astro Live Stacker.
It's a small Python(3) application dedicated to live stack.

It's watching a specified folder for new FITS frames to arrive.
Each new frame is stacked with previous result.
Two methods are available : sum and mean.
It can also register on the fly.
If Bayer pattern is present in fits header, demosaic is also done on the fly.
You can use it with eKos sequence, telling ALS where FITS files are stored.
But you can use any other software providing FITS frames.

We will try to add a dark substraction,
and will add this interesting request from one of us :
Opening a webserver to publish stacked image.
Why ?
During a public session, people could connect to our local hotspot and see and download "their" image :cheer:

I've done a video to show it working, it's in french but you'll see it running with a CCD simulator and real archived frames

It's really an early beta -but working- toy
Any ideas and improvments are wellcomed, feel free to involve :
github.com/gehelem/als

This is the place for me to thank Dragonlost for his tremedous help

Gilles.

Mount limits and the scheduler - by: Lead_weight

I got a new 2" filter wheel. It's large, and now hits the tripod when going past the meridian. If I set mount limits when using the scheduler, to have the mount travel no more than 90° vertical, will the scheduler start the mount going again when the object gets on the other side of the meridian and is past the limit for the opposite side?

Until I get a pier extension I have to work around this problem.

Thanks.

FITS viewer zoom operations (5-6 deep) causes Kstars/Ekos to crash - by: dmsummers

The setup is that with my ASI183mc Pro (5496 x 3672), after an image is taken, a (separated) FITS viewer pops up to display the image. All is well. Any number (hundreds) of images can be repetitively captured and displayed, as long as I don't try and zoom a displayed image too "deep". I can consistently zoom in/out safely 4-5 levels, but any more and the GUI (and Kstars/Ekos) freezes and a second or two later Kstars/Ekos crashes. This behavior is consistent.....it will crash Kstars/Ekos every time. I'm not sure if the issue is related to the large size of the image or what. I've learned to keep my zooms to only a few levels, but it would be nice to be able to not trigger this bug. I'm operating on a Pi4-4GB with plenty of free mem. Anyone else seeing this? Other than this minor issue, this latest Kstars/Ekos version (stable) is behaving very well!

Indiserver WiFi option for Synscan Goto? - by: JonCarleton

I have a SkyWatcher 10 Dobsonian with built-in WiFi Goto. There is also a Raspberry Pi running indiserver mounted to the scope I control via WiFi over VNC that runs a WaveShare focuser via cable and the GoTo via USB cable to the SynScan hand-unit.

It all works, but this setup requires me to use the hand-unit for Alignment. If I do an alignment over WiFi with SynScanPro (Android tablet), the Pi indiserver will not connect the pointing driver because it believes the scope has not been aligned. Apparently, the SynScanPro app WiFi connection is post-hand-unit while the Pi USB connection is pre-hand-unit. Therefore, I suspect, the hand-unit doesn't know what the Android SynScanPro app is doing.

I should mention that I run only Unix variant hardware/software and and Windows option is, for me, no option.

I do not want to use the hand unit because:
1. It is outside in the cold in winter and hot in summer with mosquitoes the size of cattle.
2. Playing Ring-Around -the-Rosie with the scope with that short little coiled cord during alignment is tedious.
3. The hand-unit does not support 1 star or 3 star alignments. Both are preferable (depending on intended targets) to the 2 star hand-unit options.
4. I could use the SynScanPro for all the pointing, but I'd still need KStars/Indi for the focus motor.

There seem to be two possible fixes, though I am open to suggestions. One would be an indi driver that connects via WiFi rather than hardwire in much the same way as the SynScanPro app, thereby (hopefully) bypassing the connect/alignment issue. The other would be a wiring setup for the Pi that avoids the hand-unit and continue to use the same indi_synscan_telescope driver. The problem with the latter is I haven't found any wiring diagrams beyond the level of, "Plug this in and turn it on." I have a suspicion one could unplug the hand unit and create a usb cable to plug in where the hand-unit goes, but cannot find a wiring diagram that either supports this assumption or laughs in my face.

I thought I saw somewhere a method of using SynScanPro for the alignment via WiFi and then connecting the indiserver driver to the SynScanPro app via WiFi, but can't find the article again. That might work. It would require the Laptop, Pi and Andriod Tablet to all be on SynScan WiFi hotspot, but that might be OK. There wouldn't be THAT much traffic unless I tried to add camera video on later.

Suggestions and help appreciated in advance!

Guiding started after meridian flip with guiding turned off. - by: Lead_weight

I'm doing unguided subs, and have guiding turned off in the scheduler. After the meridian flip, it tried to turn on guiding. I'm guessing this was from the EKOS preference to "Restart alignment on guiding calibration failure". Don't know for sure, but I turned it off.

Astroberry - USB connection problem? - by: Sundewaholic

Hello guys, I've been setting up my Astroberry Pi, I'm able to connect my equipment most of the time, including my main camera (QHY CCD), guide camera (QHY CCD), Pegasus Pocket Power Box, and PoleMaster to it, however it is not always working as the main camera (some times the guide camera or the Pegasus PPB) cannot be connected.

In the screen dump, most except the main camera cannot be detected by EKOS.

Is the problem related to the USB devices/ connection?

PS: All of them are connected via a USB3.0 powered hub. The PoleMaster is installed manually, and somehow it can always connected and works (execute using sudo PoleMaster).

I'd like to make sure my system always work in valuable clear sky night, appreciate for any advice!

Here is my original post in cloudynight, I'm advised to ask around in this forum: www.cloudynights.com/topic/702220-astrob...problems/?p=10115855

HDMI casting with Chromecast observations - by: stash

Been doing some testing for "at home" running of Chromecast (wireless) device and Astroberry.

It is very simple to use Chrome browser to Mirror your RPI device to a large screen (this was an old 40 Sony 720p) and there is only a delay of a microsecond or 2.

Obviously it depends on your network but as Chromecast can only use 2.4ghz ,so speed is limited ,it was fine to use thru my walls.

Before somebody asks/ states the obvious this was NOT ultra or 4k HD test just "normal" res @ 1920x1280 - but work for hours no problem.

Not sure how I will use it - perhaps move Preview to another TAB and only cast that tab. It would be a bit hard to lug a 40inch monitor into a field LOL.

Anyhow it might be useful to someone :-)

more image file name suffixes - by: yesyes

Hi,
I would like to see a few more options for suffixes that get appended to image file names in Ekos on the Camera tab. Currently it only allows "Filter", "Duration" and "TS".

It would be good to have a few more here, for example:
- ISO
- exposure/image number (counter since beginning of plan)
- camera temperature (especially useful for darks)

Best regards,
Chris

Canon EOS 1000D - all FITS files are completely black in DSS - by: yesyes

Hi,
I'm new to KStars and Ekos. I have recently installed Astroberry 2.0.1. I used Windows / ASCOM / EQASCOM before.

I have a Canon EOS 1000D and managed to connect it to Ekos and was able to shoot some frames.
However, when I set it to save them as FITS files and then load these FITS into DeepSkyStacker the frames are all completely black.
When I open the files in a FITS viewer there is some information there.

Has somebody seen this before? Is this something I'm doing wrong? Or are these FITS files not compatible with DSS?

When I select "Native" file format, then I get the usual .cr2 files and these are fine. I just thought I'd save as FITS as that is more of a standard format.

I have attached an example FITS file (zipped to meed the file size limitations)

Thanks!
Chris

ASI294MC Pro, USB bandwidth and video preview frame rate - by: limburg11

Hi,

I’m using Astroberry on a RPi4 and a ASI294MC Pro cam connected via USB 3.0. When doing a full size video preview in Ekos capture module, I get a max. frame rate of approx. 3 fps. I this normal or is there room for improvement? When I played with the USB bandwidth setting (set from 40 to 70), I once managed to get 10 fps, but this was not reproducible. Now I’m back on 3 fps regardless of the bandwidth setting.

Firecapture (on the same RPi4) manages to get 10-12 fps max.

What are your fps’ using ASI USB 3.0 cams? Am I missing something, or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks and CS
Bernd

Has anyone been able to get the Qhy 294c up and running on stellarmate?

Also if there are any updates available to make happen can i get instructions for a dummie on how to get that into my stellarmate.
I run off hotspot mode using a windows 10 laptop and kstars from the laptop that connects to the stellarmate, so im still new to getting vnc viewer working with stellarmate and my phone/pc and havent figured that out well.

Just got my qhy 294c in and want to get as much input as possible to mitigate any murphys law.

GigE camera - by: Bart

Hi all,

I have a camera for the infrared, it's a Xenics Bobcat 320. It has a GigE connection.
I see that in the INDI library 1.3 already there is 'Support for GigE machine vision cameras'.
I would love to use it with Stellarmate/ Astroberry, if possible.

What drivers should I use for it? I'm quite inexperienced in this, that's why I ask your help with it.
Maybe it's as easy to select a certain driver in the Ekos profile?

Thanks!

Options for getting updates for Raspbian - by: AradoSKYindi

Hello,

I am finding I am taking multiple attempts with days of “apt-get update”. I rarely get to “apt-get upgrade” with the suggested steps. When I go to “apt-get upgrade, downloads are a crawl and timeout. I would be interested in a way for apt to be in a restartable mode. Seeing it repeat the same download as the Last N tries, where N > 0, is challenging for a restartable Mode. /z is the file replicate mode to recover a failed copy. Apt cannot seem to attempt any more than three strikes and your out. Anything over 10 mb is an effort of futility.

I did not seem to have this problem with Ubuntu. I was not under nation wide Shelter at Home protocol then. The network is slammed with content seekers and DDOS attackers. What are the options?

Ekos says auto meridian flip has worked, but it didn't happen - by: JamesF

I am running the latest Kstars/Ekos etc. from the launchpad PPA on 64-bit Mint 19 with a NEQ6 mount. Until recently automated meridian flips (set to happen 0.2 hours after the meridian) have been working without a problem.

In the last week or so however, Ekos has been informing me that the flip is due, waiting for the current sub to finish, initiating the flip, saying it worked successfully and then centering the target and restarting guiding, just as I would expect. But the mount has not moved.

I was wondering if this might be some sort of issue with DST, but I have a second NEQ6 set up the same way running on the same OS that did flip properly last night when the other failed to do so.

Any suggestions as to why this might happen or how I might work out what's going on would be gratefully received.
