Please test the latest version of KStars on OS X. The issues before were that python, pip, numpy, pyfits, and netpbm needed to be installed separately via homebrew in order to get it all working. There were installers in the KStars wizard and a list of instructions on how to get it all working, but it was difficult and didnt always work. I spent a few hours on Thursday evening of last week working to get all of the required dependencies into the app so that a separate and difficult install process would no longer be required. The page in the wizard will no longer be required if this works. Homebrew does not need to be installed either!
Now the only thing you need to do to astrometry working in the latest version of OS X KStars is to install the correct index files and to set your settings correctly. Also if you want to use the simulators to practice plate solving, you need to install gsc. There are built in installers in OS X KStars that work for these items.
